You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader(4.0 or above) to read the Catalogue. If you do not have it, download it here.

The Transformers are briefly classified as below:-

DISTRIBUTION TRANSFORMERS

As the name suggests, these are exclusively used for supplying power to end users.

Range : 500 KVA to 5000 KVA, up to 33 kV class.

POWER TRANSFORMERS

Range : Up to 200 MVA, up to 220 kV class

Unique features of our Power Transformers :
  • For Power transformers, the short circuit withstand capability is of prime importance. This is achieved by us through the adoption of a unique clamping arrangement of the windings and accurately determined pre-stress
  • For primary voltages of 132 kV and 220 kV, ability to withstand system transients and lightning surges are vital parameters. The insulation design and quality of materials used, ensure that our product can withstand the most adverse conditions
  • Testing means to us much more than meeting contractual and "standards" obligations. Several in-house tests have been devised by us to ensure quality and reliability in service. For this, we have a variety of testing equipment, full fledged laboratory and trained personnel

GENERATOR TRANSFORMERS

This is a type of Power Transformer where the primary winding is connected to the generator and secondary to the transmission system. In addition to the features of Power Transformers, the magnetic circuit is designed such that our Generator Transformer can withstand over voltages up to 170 %.

SPECIAL TRANSFORMERS

These transformers are specially designed and manufactured for dedicated applications. They provide trouble free operation even during the most demanding working conditions.

  • MOTOR STARTING TRANSFORMERS
These are used for starting large induction or synchronous motors. The unique feature of these transformers is they function as Auto Transformers during starting and then function as reactors. In this method of starting the inrush current is reduced and thus the voltage dip is also reduced. Special types of windings and a unique construction of the magnetic core are used. The core consists of several lamination packets assembled one over the other with an air gap between each packet.

  • DRY TYPE TRANSFORMERS
Instead of mineral oil, these transformers have air as the medium of insulation and heat dissipation. These are nonflammable, maintenance free transformers which can be installed at the load center in enclosed areas. Bringing the HT line to the load center reduces the line losses.

  • THYRISTOR DUTY TRANSFORMERS
Used where high power D C is required e.g. Chemical and Steel Industry. The primary side is connected to the supply system and secondary side to thyristor for conversion form A.C to D.C. As output current is non - sinusoidal, the effect produced in the electric and magnetic circuit differs from conventional transformers. Some unique features are as under :-
    • There are two secondary windings arranged axially one over the other with the corresponding primary winding connected in parallel. This ensures identical impedence between primary and each individual secondary winding, which is of utmost importance for satisfactory operation
    • Magnetic circuit is specially designed to ensure that it never goes into saturation
    • The style of windings and cooling system is such that due to the over heating and high stray loss produced by the non-sinusoidal current, the hot spot temperature is well within the permissible limits.

  • LOCOMOTIVE TRANSFORMERS
Locomotive Transformers are mounted directly on the locomotives used for hauling passenger and goods trains. These transformers are required to meet large voltage variations, sustained over loads, frequent short circuits and excessive vibrations. To achieve the mechanical strength required to withstand innumerable short circuits, the windings are rectangular which in-turn reduces the axial forces. Sandwiching of the primary and secondary windings reduces the radial forces. Adequate sizing of cooling ducts, adoption of appropriate current densities and direct oil flow ensure transformer protection during conditions of overload. The clamping system of the windings takes care of the mechanical vibrations and the effect of short circuit. Till date, we have several transformers operating satisfactory in service.
